From the air filter in your car to the lint filter in your clothes dryer, one thing is certain: If they're not clean, they just don't work. That's the common wisdom behind nasal washing, an ancient practice that has seen an amazing resurgence in the West.
The nose is the body's filter, and an effective and healthy nasal filtering system is a crucial component to the body's immune defense system. The nasal cavity is lined with a mucus membrane, which is covered by microscopic filaments called cilia. These help remove or filter the impurities we breathe. Our modern world is filled with an abundance of these impurities, such as pollen, mold, dust, viruses, bacteria, smoke, pollution and chemicals.
Due to a commonly high exposure to dust and pollution, our bodies filtering mechanism often becomes overloaded. Regular cleansing of the nasal passages allows them to operate more efficiently, thus keeping you healthier and happier.
I evaluate and treat nose woes every day, and most often they're related to irritants that we inhale. From my 20 years of practicing pediatrics I developed and patented the perfect nose wash, Nasopure Nasal Wash System.
Exposure to irritants causes the cilia in the nasal passages to malfunction. Then the increased mucus produced becomes difficult to remove, and the mucus membranes become swollen. When this drainage system becomes plugged, people end up with such maladies as sinusitis, persistent coughs, sore throats, sinus pressure and painful ears. Regardless of the initial cause of the problem, bacteria thrive in this environment, and sooner or later serious infection can set in.
Nasal washing reduces the need for medicines, shrink swollen membranes and make the nasal and sinus environment inhospitable to bacterial, fungal and viral growth. Studies have shown what I have seen in my own practice, those who wash their nose regularly get sick less often and breathe easier, all without the use of drugs.
Practitioners of yoga and ayurveda in India have used nasal washing, known as "neti," for hundreds of years. Neti is one of the six purification techniques performed prior to doing yoga as a way of preparing the body for the yoga practice.
The neti pot is filled with warm saline water. The spout of the pot is then inserted into one nostril. The position of the head and pot are adjusted so that the water flows out of the other nostril. This procedure is then alternated with the other nostril. The water drains out, flushing the nasal passages and the linings thoroughly.
Nasopure is a modern version of this ancient method. The design doesn't rely on gravity but instead allows the user to control the pressure while standing upright instead of bending or contorting. Unlike the neti pot it is also unbreakable and dishwasher safe. Nasopure includes a hypertonic buffered solution using the exact recipe that physicians recommend to combat sinusitis, rhinitis, allergies and the common cold.
Nasal washing removes debris by pulling it from the sinuses as the water flows past the sinus cavity, never actually entering the sinuses.
People who nasal wash regularly notice fewer colds, sweeter smelling breath and the ability to breath easier. Others have experienced an improved sense of smell and taste and deeper, more relaxed breathing. It may also help with asthma. There is more evidence each day that asthma is best controlled when the nose is maintained clean and well-functioning.
With as many as 40 million Americans fighting sinusitis and tiring of antibiotics, antihistamines and decongestants, nasal washing is the natural alternative. It is no surprise that with the assault of chemicals, fragrances, pollution, dust and pollen that our nostrils are under enormous stress. Even today's modern diet tends to favor foods that increase the body's production of mucus, thereby creating an imbalance and clogging up the nasal passages and sinuses.
There are many nasal washing systems available, and they can be found at drugstores, health food stores or on the Internet. They come in a variety of materials ranging from durable plastic, stainless steel or lead-free ceramic. Some, such as Nasopure, come with a pre-measured hypertonic salt formula.
Numerous scientific studies show nasal washes help address the issue of overuse of prescription antibiotics, antihistamines and the more than 800 over-the-counter cold medications on the shelves. When hypertonic-buffered saline nasal wash is used properly, 80 percent of histamines and leukotrienes, the irritants, which result in allergy symptoms, are washed away.
Four-year-old Sophie, one of my patients, learned to use a nasal wash at the age of two. She often wakes up with a stuffy nose and wants to rinse her nose to alleviate the problem. She steps up to the sink, washes her nose on her own, blows, grunts like her grandpa and walks away saying, "Now that feels good; I can breathe."
The Centers for Disease Control has estimated that treatment of infections due to resistant bacteria costs more than $4 billion annually. In addition, allergy treatments cost $1.8 billion annually. Each year, over $850 million is spent on physician visits and $639 million is lost on productivity, all due to sinus problems. When the problem can be solved simply with a solution discovered thousands of years ago, it's no wonder people are returning to the ancient wisdom of nasal washing.

Fruits Secretsby
Sharon Hopkins

Fruits, a goldmine of vitamins, minerals and fibre are ideal to consume at least 4-5 servings in a day. Since they are in the natural form, account for largest part of water and 100% bad cholesterol free, it's much easier for the body to process and absorb the vitamins and minerals from the fresh fruit.
Apple - Round fruit with lots of fibre, vitamins A, C, E and folate. Available in green, red or yellow skin when ripe. Apples reduce the risk of colon cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer. They also help with heart disease, weight loss and controlling cholesterol.
Bananas - Long thick skinned fruit yellow in colour when ripe. Good source of fibre, potassium, vitamins A, C, B6, E & folate. Unripe or green bananas are used in cooking.
Cherries - small round fruit with a seed, red or black in colour when ripened. Cherries always have to be ripe to eat. Cherries contain anthocyanins that reduce pain & inflammation.
Figs - Eaten either dried or fresh, figs contain vitamin A, C, folate and niacin. A small sweet fruit full of small seeds.
Kiwi - A rich source of vitamins A, C, E, B - complex, calcium, iron and folic acid, kiwi is a small oval fruit with thin brown skin, soft green flesh and black seeds. The skin is a good source of flavonoid antioxidants.
Lime - Lime or lemon is the most cultivated citrus fruit with green to yellow colour loaded with vitamins A, C and folate. Juice of lime is good for detoxification and has antioxidant properties.
Peach - Round juicy fruit with a yellowish red skin & flesh having a taste of acidic tang and sweetness contains a rough stone. Always to be picked and eaten ripe.
Orange - A round thick-skinned juicy edible fruit that is a reddish-yellow colour when ripe with sweet to sour flavour. Peeled and eaten fresh or squeezed to make juice. Contain vitamin C, flavanoids, provides pectin and rich in sodium when ripened in sunshine.
Plum - soft round smooth-skinned fruit with sweet flesh and a flattish pointed stone. It is high in carbohydrates, low in fat and calories. An excellent source of vitamin A, C, calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, fibre and free of sodium and cholesterol.
Papaya - A melon like fruit with yellow- orange flesh with dozens of small black seeds enclosed in skin that ranges in colour from green to orange. Either round, pear-shaped, or long like a banana. Rich in vitamins A, B, C, and D; calcium, phosphorous and iron. It is high in digestive properties and has a direct tonic effect on the stomach.
Pear - A sweet juicy yellow or green fruit with a rounded shape narrow towards the stalk. Best eaten at room temperature, pear contains kalium and riboflavine. It is good for skin and contains plenty of fibres.
Strawberry - A triangular shaped red colour fruit. It is one of the richest sources of Vitamin C and fibre. It has high content of sodium and iron. It helps in whitening of the teeth. Used to relieve rheumatism.
Watermelon - a type of melon with smooth exterior rind and juicy sweet red interior flesh. Extraordinarily refreshing to drink as juice or eaten when ripe and fresh. Valuable for minerals, vitamins and sugar with useful amount of fibre and iron.

Exercise and Romance
For almost 4 years I have been promoting the benefits of exercise and fitness. But I have overlooked one the most important reasons for staying fit - maintaining a healthy sex life. In the February 1999 issue of the American Medical Association, researchers found that sexual dysfunction is more likely among those with poor physical health and it contributes to negative experiences with sexual relationships. The conclusion is that your physical health affects your ability to function sexually.
But this is only one of many studies. It seems to be a popular topic of research:
Doctors at the New England Research Institute determined that regular vigorous exercise would lower the risk of impotence. Vigorous exercise was defined as doing the equivalent of walking two miles or burning 200 calories a day.
A University of California studied middle-aged, sedentary men. After putting them on one hour of exercise three times a week, "the men demonstrated improved sexual function, more frequent sex and orgasms and greater satisfaction."
Researchers at Bentley College in Massachusetts found that women in their 40s were more sexually active (about seven times per month), and enjoyed it more then a sedentary group of peers. Since sex requires similar endurance developed through cardio exercise, it is recommended that individuals walk, run, cycle or swim for at least 30 minutes, three times a week. The results are both partners will be able to perform longer and more often.
These are a couple of my favorite studies:
A two-year study at the Cologne University Medical Center determined that certain exercises can be as effective as Via*gra (sildenafil) in dealing with some causes of erectile dysfunction. It was always assumed that certain pelvic exercises would help, but according to Dr. Frank Sommer, "we were surprised it was so effective."
Over 100 patients with middle to medium circulatory problems were randomly given sildenafil, placebo or placed on an exercise routine.
The results were 80% of the participants who exercised reported better erections, compared to 74% on sildenafil and 18% taking the placebo. The exercise focused on the pelvis, buttocks and upper leg muscles. The results were increased blood flow necessary to maintain an erection, and best of all, the rigidity of the erections improved an average of 46% three months after men started the exercise program.
The University of Texas, at Austin, studied 35 women between the ages of 18 and 34. You are going to like this research. On two separate occasions the woman watched a short travel film followed by an X-rated film. The first viewing the women cycled vigorously for 20 minutes. The second viewing they were sedentary. The women's response was calculated by measuring the blood flow in their genital tissue. It was concluded that the vaginal responses were 169% greater after exercising.
These studies confirm the contribution of exercise to a healthy love life, but everything in moderation. If you are thinking that becoming an ultra marathon runner or a triathlete will take your sexual encounters to the stratosphere, you will be disappointed. Extreme exercise can actually decrease testosterone level, leading to less robust sex.

10 Ways To Feel Absolutely Brilliant
by Gail Miller
We all feel a little down in the mouth from time to time, but there are things we can do to make ourselves feel full of vim and vigour again, you know. Here are some of my tips to make you feel absolutely brilliant again.
1. Decide to do something different from your usual routine. Take a different route to work. Get off the bus a few stops short and walk the rest of the way. Have a salad lunch for a change, if you usually have sandwiches. Make a small change.
2. Book yourself a holiday. Even if you can only afford a weekend away. The change of scene will make you feel energised again. You might even meet someone new if you're single!
3.Take responsibility for your actions. Do you usually blame circumstances or other people when something goes wrong in your life? If so then try to remember only *you* can be in charge of your own destiny. You can't change the world, you can only change yourself. Once you take responsibility for what happens to you, you can take action and move forwards.
4. Ever heard the saying "Act your age, not your shoe size"? Well, for once, why not act your shoe size and not your age? Go to the park and have a go on the swings. Take the kids with you, chase around and make lots of noise. Laugh and have FUN!
5. Try to fit some exercise into your schedule. Not only will you start to look better, you will start to feel better too.
6. Try to make someone else feel good. How often do you do something completely unselfish? It is amazing how good you will feel by making someone else's day. Help an old person, make a stranger smile, have a conversation with a lonely person. Helping others is excellent for the soul.
7. Take the lead in your relationship. Show your man you are feeling frisky. Many males are turned on by an assertive woman. Let him know, in no uncertain terms that you're feeling passionate.
8. Stop thinking "I'll do it tomorrow". Do you have something praying on your mind that you need to start or complete? Well, make today the day to DO IT!
9. Look after yourself, with a lovely relaxing bath, facial and / or foot massage, in fact anything that makes YOU feel good. After all you're worth it!
10. Be thankful for what you have got, not resentful about what you haven't. I am sure if you look around you, you can find many others far worse off than you are. So count your blessings.

Natural solutions to the problems of the circulatory system
Robert Elias Najemy
Natural Effective Solutions:
1. Carefully observe guidelines for healthy eating. Avoid as much as possible cooked oils, white flour, meat, white sugar, and any foods, which have been over processed or have chemical additives.
2. Eat whole grains, fresh vegetables and fruits and a little raw unheated vegetable oil each day.
3. Occasional fasting helps to purify the blood vessels. One could fast on apples, pears or brown rice or do a juice fast for a few days. If one wants to do a longer fast, consult your doctor. Fasting on grapes is considered one of the most effective ways to purify the blood.
4. Vitamins and antioxidants help with better circulation: A, C, E, and Lecithin, B complex (especially B3, B2).
5. Alternating Hot and cold baths help the blood flow to penetrate into all parts of the body. In general finishing with a cold shower helps stimulate circulation. Consult your doctor as to whether this is for your specific case.
6. Dress warmly so as to allow your blood vessels to be relaxed and let blood flow.
7. Swimming in the sea all year long helps to keep the circulation flowing and the body vital. One must be regular. If you cease for a period of time, your body will loose its ability to adapt to the cold water in the winter.
8. Nettle tea and beating the extremities with nettles is a folk remedy for increasing circulation to the extremities. This may be painful while doing it, but it brings results.
9. Reflexology massage can be used to bring circulation to organs, which cannot be affected by other means. By massaging the reflex point on the bottom of the foot we are able to bring blood flow to the various interior organs, so as to revitalize them.
10. Swedish muscular massage can be used to bring better blood flow to the various extremities.
11. All forms of movement and activity are helpful, i.e. running, walking, dancing, swimming, playing, sports and exercising. These are a must for those with poor circulation.
12. Breathing facilitates the return of the blood through the veins to the heart. When we breathe deeply and slowly, we help the blood to return to the heart an also move the lymph through the system. Deep breathing every day is an essential for those with circulatory problems.
13. When we relax the blood vessels, our blood flows freely to the various parts of our body. We tend to obstruct the free flow of blood through unconscious tensing of the various muscles and also the blood vessels themselves. Relaxation is essential for healthy circulation. Perform «deep relaxation» daily, imagining the blood vessels opening and the blood flowing freely to the parts of the body which have insufficient circulation.
14. Various forms of heat, such as hot compresses, hot water bottles, and electric heating pads can be used to increase the circulation momentarily to various parts of the body.
15. Physical Exercisesa. The abdominal area is considered the «furnace» of the body, where heat and energy are produced. Sluggishness and tension in this area can impede our general flow of energies and also blood. Thus, you will need to do a number of exercises to stimulate and vitalize the area of the abdomen. b. The endocrine system regulates our overall metabolism. You would do well to learn and employ specific exercises for rejuvenating and harmonizing the endocrine system.c. Add other exercises for the various joints such as the shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, hips, knees, ankles and toes according to where you need better circulation. Even if our problems are located at the extremities such as with the fingers and toes, we have to open up all the other joints, which come before them. Although the symptoms may be in the extremities, the cause may be in one of the preceding joints. It is usually at the joints that the circulation gets blocked.d. Ensure good circulation to the brain by lying on your back next to a wall and placing your feet up on the wall, so that the blood flows into the lungs gaining oxygen and then into the brain oxygenating and bringing nutrients to all the cells of the brain. This is essential for the pituitary and hypothalamus and thus for the endocrine and autonomic nervous system and thus for all bodily and mental functions.
16. Observe to see if emotional factors are involved. You may have an unconscious holding and a need for control of feelings or expression, which is also restricting the free flow of blood. If you are suppressing your emotions, learn to express them in effective and positive ways (without hurting others). When we care for our body and mind, they serve us much more efficiently.May you be well on all levels of your being.
